How Ankeny Christian Academy made me a better student and a stronger Christian:

I will never forget the moment I was saved.  I was in 9th grade and I had just started attending Ankeny Christian Academy.  I didn't want to leave my friends at the public school and I was afraid to go to a new school.  Even the first day I didn't know how to feel.  The teachers and students at ACA were so nice, but I was still going to miss my friends. 

Over time I began to like Ankeny Christian Academy and my new friends.  I wasn't doing very well with my grades, but I really liked the classes.  I remember finding the most trouble understanding the Bible class.  It was difficult for me.  I didn't understand why.  I had attended Sunday school and midweek all my life.  So why was this class particularly strange?

That answer was soon to come.  The high school students all attended a fall weekend retreat to Camp Appanoose.  At night we all took a hay-rack ride to this spot where we could have a camp fire.  We were all bundled up around the fire and we were singing songs.  I remember one of the students playing the song "Sanctuary" on his guitar.  I looked around at everyone and suddenly felt this empty space in my heart filled.  I started to realize how much I wasn't living for God.  Tears just streamed down my face.  I looked up at all the bright stars in the sky, and whispered one little word.  "Help!"  That one little word was all it took.  At that moment I knew I had been saved!   I just pleaded to God that he would help me be a stronger Christian.  After the song I went over to the Bible teacher and asked him if I could speak to him alone for a moment.  I told him how I had just been saved and we prayed together and thanked God for working in my heart and showing me a glimpse of what He had planned for me at Ankeny Christian Academy.

If it were not for ACA I know I wouldn't be on my way to heaven right now.  Ankeny Christian Academy has affected my life so much.  This school has had such an effect on me.  It made me a stronger Christian because I understand what being a Christian is.  A Christian is someone who believes that God is the creator and redeemer and that He loves us with all his heart and that if we love Him back then we need to strive to be like Him.  What a wonderful God I have! 

To this very day, I feel extremely privileged to have lived out my wonderful high school career at Ankeny Christian Academy!
