FINANCIAL SPECIALIST Mrs. Irene McHone I am grateful to my parents that they sent me to a Christian School for a few years when I was in grade school. Christian school was not available everywhere we lived. My parents were in ministry so we moved often. I have lived in Montana, South Dakota, Alaska, Oklahoma, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska and now Iowa! My dad was even a basketball coach in a Christian School. When I was a junior in high school my parents moved to the Kansas City area to work out of the home office of Gospel Missionary Union now known as Avant. I worked for awhile in the printing area of the mission. My favorite subject in high school was bookkeeping. Figure that one out! Just give me some numbers, calculations and reports and I am feeling fine. My dad had the foresight to send me to a school, during one of my summers while I was in college that taught me the basics of computer entry. That opened up the way for my future jobs - everything from insurance, to accounting, to benefits, to payroll and now to ACA. I met my husband when I was fourteen. We spent a week at Bible Camp together and never saw one another again until we were sophomores in college. We both graduated from Grace University in Omaha, Nebraska. After graduation my husband and I lived in the Kansas City area while he attended Calvary Bible College to get his Master's Degree. I again worked for Avant Ministries but now I was in the accounting department. While I was growing up, the Lord instilled in me the desire to serve Him in a Christian organization using the talents and gifts He had given me. One day a parent from ACA called me and told me that the bookkeeping job was open. She had seen it in a newsletter and knew that I was looking for a position. Her daughter had thought that there would not be anyone who would find out about the job through the newsletter. Her mom said, "but I know someone" and she picked up the phone and called me. My husband I live, on a small acreage, 10 miles north and east of Ankeny. The road we live on is a winding, wooded road - watch out for those deer! I have two children, my son and family live in Ankeny, and my daughter and family live in the Twin Cities. I am so grateful that there is Christian education available for my grandson here at ACA. One of the perks of my working at ACA is to occasionally be able to wave and say hi to him in the hall. My daughter is considering Christian school for my granddaughter too. |
