Fifth and Sixth Grade Teacher

Greetings! I am Linda Wiers and I am thrilled to be the 5th/6th grade teacher at Ankeny Christian Academy.

I have a Bachelor Degree in Elementary Education from Ferris State University in Big Rapids, Michigan. I received that degree as an adult learner, meaning I went to college much later in life. I had married my husband, Rick, raised two wonderful children (Shannon and Chris) and then decided to go to college. I enrolled in a five year program, finishing it in four years with top honors as Student of the Year.

In Michigan I was a substitute teacher in many districts, spending 12 weeks at Dutton Christian Elementary in 2nd grade. In doing this I have learned many things that a college can not teach. I had worked for Caledonia Community Schools for 17 years in food service, donating my extra time to being a classroom aid; teaching hands on lessons in recipe reading, baking, helping to teach that life and school go hand in hand. I have also been involved with community theater groups and directed middle school plays for Dutton Christian.

I was raised in a Christian home, where life was lived as an example, being taught that we must live our faith not just talk about it. I accepted Jesus as my Lord in my teen years. I have grown in my faith in the last six years, watching as God unfolded a multitude of events; from having a child injured in Iraq to having a husband without work. God has encircled us with faithful friends and prayer warriors, and lead us to Ankeny. I truly believe that all things are God ordained.

The verse I hold fast to this year is: I Corinthians 15:58 Therefore, dear brothers, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourself fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain. GOD is good! All the time.
