As I anticipate the start of a new school year, I am reminded of John 10:3, in which Jesus as the Good Shepherd, promises to lead and provide for His sheep. My Good Shepherd has been so faithful to direct my paths thus far and has richly blessed me with the opportunity to teach many precious children over the course of the past couple of years! Rehearsing the Lord’s goodness in the past gives me much confidence and excitement about the incredible plans He has in store for this year as well!
I was born and raised in a small town in Iowa along the Mississippi River. From an early age, my parents took me to church and to A.W.A.N.A., and they taught me about Christ’s death and resurrection. They encouraged me to memorize verses such as Romans 3:23, Romans 6:23, John 3:16, and Ephesians 2:8-9. I am thankful for my parents’ godly example because the Holy Spirit used their obedience to the Lord to challenge me about salvation. After coming to the realization I was a sinner in need of a Savior, I placed my trust in Jesus Christ for salvation, but I failed to record the date of the day I was saved. For many years I struggled with the fact that I did not know the exact date of the day I was saved; however, today I rest in full assurance of my eternal security because I am trusting in Christ’s work on the cross as my substitute! There is no righteousness in me, and I am so thankful Christ demonstrated His love and mercy for me, a sinner completely unworthy of His favor!
Even after graduating from high school, I experienced God’s gracious leading in my life. He guided me to Faith Baptist Bible College to study to become a teacher, and I am ever so thankful for the training I received from godly men and women who challenged me from the Word! I graduated from Faith in May of 2009 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education and completed work for my Reading Endorsement three months later. It was a great delight to observe God’s continued direction after graduation, and I rejoice that He has given me the desire of my heart: to serve as a teacher at ACA and to serve with my church family at Urbandale Baptist Church! My plans for life would have taken me on a much different path, but the Lord’s ways are infinitely higher and better than our ways! I am so glad!
This will be my third year teaching kindergarten here at ACA, and I am excited for the opportunity to teach the little ones God has entrusted to my care! Kindergarten children are a favorite age group of mine to teach because they love to learn and because they soak in everything! One of my greatest burdens is to see my students make personal decisions to trust Christ as their Savior and grow to love His Word. It is my prayer that I will live each day in a way that demonstrates my love for the Lord and His Word as well as a passion for serving Him wholeheartedly in every area of life, and I hope to pass that love of God on to my students!
