Ankeny Christian Academy: the history

The Beginning

Ankeny Christian Academy began in February of 1992 when a small group of concerned parents started praying about their children's education. With a $500.00 donation and a lot of faith they started looking for a building and staff.

God led these parents to open a Christian school in Ankeny. In August of 1993, meeting in a church, Ankeny Christian Academy opened with 27 students and 3 teachers in grades K through 6th. Since then the school has rented rooms in several churches and a remodeled warehouse office building. ACA started the junior high and high school sports program that included girls volleyball, and boy and girls basketball in the fall of 1996. We continued to add grades and we had our first graduating class in the year 2000. In the spring of 2000, God provided a facility for us to purchase.

Today

Ankeny Christian Academy is now a Preschool 3 to 12th grade independent non-denominational Christian school. ACA provides an excellent academic education integrated with a Christian view of God and the world. We are accredited by the State of Iowa.

Our Facility: the history

PHASE 1

• In April 2000 we purchased the 50,000 Square Foot facility at 1604 West 1st Street, Ankeny, Iowa
• Remodeled 35,000 Square Feet for ACA use
• 13 Spacious Classrooms
• Chapel/Auditorium - Seats 360
• Lunchroom and Kitchen
• Rec. Room/PE
• Computer Room
• Vocal/Instrumental Music Room
• Library
• Resource Room

PHASE 2

In January 2002 Phase II (east end remodeled) was completed and the Preschool opened with 3 new classrooms and an office
November 2002 - Installed Phase 1 and 2 of the Playground Equipment for Pre-School and elementary students

PHASE 3

The ACA association voted on April 1, 2003 to build a gymnasium. We broke ground in June 2003 and it was completed in Nov. 2003. It has a wood floor with 2 full size practice courts and one full size playing court with fold out bleachers.

PHASE 4

Winter 2008 the Men's and Women's locker rooms with showers was completed 
Volunteers and donors finished the ACA weight room Winter 2009
The new secondary Science Lab was finished August 2009
