Review: Capitalization and punctuation

Homophones: words that sound alike but have different spellings and meanings.

Ex. know-no ate-eight

 

Antonyms: words that have opposite meaning.

Ex. up-down yes-no

Synonyms: words that have the same meaning or nearly the same meaning.

Ex. thick-wide happy-joyful

Contractions: be able to combine two words to make a contraction. Know which two words make up particular contractions.

Know when to use-- is, are, was, were, has, have, wasn't, weren't, isn't, aren't, hasn't, haven't:

If you are talking about one person or thing, use:

*is, was, has, wasn't, isn't, and hasn't

If you are talking about 2 or more people or things, use:

*are, were, have, weren't, aren't, haven't

If you are using the word “you” as the subject, use:

*are, were, have, weren't, aren't, haven't

Here is what we did this week:

Bible- We learned about Jesus' miracle of the feeding of the 5000.

Language- We have been learning about synonyms, antonyms, and homonyms.

Math- We began learning about division.

History- We have been learning about Abraham Lincoln.

 

News and Notes:

-Book It- Our goal for January is 350 minutes! Your January forms are due next week Tuesday. Your February sheets are being sent home today.

-Scholastic Book Sales- Scholastic book orders are being sent home today. Orders are due back by Monday, February 7. Please make checks payable to Britni Wells as I will be paying through my account.

-Yearbooks- Yearbook sales have been extended to February 4. Stop by the office for your copy!

-Speech Meet- Your child's speeches went home earlier this week. Please begin practicing these for the upcoming meet. Let me know if you have any questions!
