Home Work Assignments

Each week students learn a Bible verse that corresponds with a letter of the alphabet.  We learn the verse as a class and practice it each day before students say it aloud to their fellow classmates.  We discuss how it applies to our lives, and the students really enjoy hiding God's Word in their hearts!

Verse of the Week: Letter Z!

Psalm 97:8

"Zion heard, and was glad."

For Fun!

Jesus Paid it All!

Recently, I have not taken time to update this “For Fun” section of my class notes; however, the Lord impressed upon my heart to share one more time about a truth of the utmost importance as I close out my notes for the 2009 - 2010 school year.  I have no way of knowing who visits this page nor how many people spend time reading this section, but I have to share....I must.....
During my quiet time with the Lord the past couple of days, I have been meditating on a passage of Scripture the Holy Spirit brought into focus as I was memorizing another familiar verse.  The passage, found in 2 Corinthians 5:14 - 15, says, “For the love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead: And that he died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto him which died for them, and rose again.”  The first half of the passage captured my attention in particular.
Verse fourteen explains our motivation for loving and serving Christ, and the motivation is awesome!  Do you see it there?  Christ died for us BECAUSE we were DEAD in our sins!  We are born with a sin nature and are dead in our trespasses.  YET, our Creator God loved us so much, He sent His Son to die for us.  Romans 3:23 says, “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”  We cannot meet God’s demand for perfection.  Furthermore, the wages we earn for our sin is death (Romans 6:23), physical death and spiritual death, which is separation from God forever!  BUT.....“God demonstrated His own love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8).
The passage in 1 Corinthians further states that Christ died for us all.  We, however, must trust in Him alone for salvation.  Ephesians 2:8-9 says, “For by grace are you saved through faith, and that NOT OF YOURSELVES, it is the GIFT of God, not of works, lest any man should boast.”  The best and most exciting news to rejoice in is the Good News that Jesus paid the penalty for our sin, was buried, and rose again.  He now offers us the gift of salvation, but we must accept it.  Nothing we can do will save us.  Attending church on a regular basis, being involved in Sunday school and church projects, volunteering, being baptized, or growing up in a “Christian” home WILL NOT save us.  That is tremendously GOOD news because we can never do enough to earn our salvation!  I could work my whole life to try and earn my salvation, but it would not do any good.  However, Jesus paid it all!  Jesus took my place on the cross.  He died to take the penalty of my sins, and He rose to give me life!  It is so simple, yet so profound!
One of my favorite songs is “Jesus Paid it All.”  Elvina Mabel Hall wrote the lyrics, which overflow with the Good News that Jesus paid the penalty and has the power to save us and to give us life!  Oh friend, are you trusting in Christ’s work on the cross ALONE for your salvation?  If you do not know Him as Savior, will you make the decision today to trust completely in Him for forgiveness and eternal life?  You may have more questions about salvation, and if you do, please contact me.  I would love to show you how you can know for certain you will be able to spend all eternity with the Lord!  If you have already placed your trust and confidence in Christ your Savior, will you spend some time rejoicing in the fact that Jesus paid it all and that henceforth you should no longer live for yourself but for Him (2 Cor. 5:15)?
May Jesus Christ receive the glory, honor, and praise He is due for His marvelous gift of salvation!  Amen!?
