If you plan to eat lunch this day, please make sure you let the office know by 8:30 am as is the regular procedure for eating hot lunch at ACA.
The ACA secondary speech meet will be February 9 and 10. All ACA students are required to participate. Students in both junior and senior high have been given pertinent information which includes possible categories. Miss Lindow and Miss Schopf will work more closely with the junior high students, and selections for junior high students will be made during class period. Students will be required to prepare and practice outside of class, and limited time will be given for them to practice in class. Chapel: Primary chapel started out with singing the "Self-Control" song and "Jesus Loves Me". After pledges, Miss Hult shared about God's kindness from Psalm 103:3-5, 8-10. Miss Hult brought in a picture frame to share how it displays a picture for us. In Psalms David paints a picture of God's kindness for us to see. We discussed how God shares kindness with us by being our rescuer, giver, and by being our teacher. He is our rescuer by offering salvation to us. He is the giver because He has given us good things. He is our teacher by having patience with us and forgiving us when we sin. When we display God's kindness to others it gives all the glory to God. We ended chapel with a play by the 4th graders about the Israelites. They showed through their play that it is important not to complain and worry but to trust God with everything.
The fourth grade class presented a challenging yet humorous drama that depicted the children of Israel's ongoing process of learning that God will take care of us. There were numerous situations they were faced with in which they could demonstrate reliance upon God to meet their numerous needs. It is very easy for us to ask and wonder why the Israelites were such slow learners. However, if we are honest with ourselves, we are no different than them.
Mr. Silver brought our attention back to our theme of commitment. Today he took us to the very beginning of God's Word, Genesis 1. There are many times we need to be reminded that 1) There is a Creator 2) God is all-powerful 3) God has a plan for His creation 4) God is Lord over all His creation. These are all great considerations, but what do we do with this? They should all challenge us with the reality that God has the right to set the rules, we must respect God in light of who He is, God cares for me and has a plan for my life, and every single part of my life is under His control.
In secondary chapel, Mr. Silver challenged us with three reasons why we should look forward to heaven from 2 Corinthians 4:16-18 and Revelation 21-22. God will dwell with us there, former way of life will pass away, and our perspectives will be changed. If we, as believers, live with the eternal in focus, the sufferings of this present time will be small in comparison to the riches that await us. We need to share the truth about this wonderful place with others!
Reminders . . .
Cell Phone Reminder: Remind your students that they are not allowed to use their cell phones during the school day. Remind your child that if he/she forgot to bring a lunch, forgot a homework assignment, feels sick, or needs to call home for any other reason, that the office phone is available to use for such calls. We have seen an increase of cell phone usage, particularly students texting parents, and we will be following the handbook policy listed below:
562: “Students are not allowed to use cell phones during school hours. If a cell phone is seen, heard, or used, it will be confiscated and turned over to the administrator, designee, or office and the student will be issued a detention. The phone will only be returned to the student at the end of the day. Consequences for subsequent offense(s) are at the discretion of the administrator.”
Yearbook Sales: Reserve your yearbook today. The childcare/preschool/ elementary yearbook is $19. The secondary yearbook is $37. Gift certificates are still available for birthdays or other gifts. Bring check or cash to reserve your yearbook by February 3.
Golden Apple Award: Channel 13 and Allied Insurance recognize outstanding educators with a Golden Apple Award! Each month from September through May one teacher is chosen from the applications that are received. The award presentation for each winning teaching is broadcast on the news! Before and After School Supervision Hours: The safety of our students is a high priority at ACA. To ensure all students are safe and well-supervised, students are not allowed to be in the school building before 7:30 am or after 3:30 pm unless participating in a supervised activity. Parents of students who arrive before the start time or are delayed beyond the end time will be notified and asked to make appropriate arrangements. Thank you for your cooperation.
