The ACA boys basketball team won the Rolling Hills Conference championship outright with a victory over Paton-Churdan Tuesday (Feb. 9).
The Eagles beat the Rockets 87-58 to finish league play and win the conference with a record of 17-1. Elk Horn-Kimballton with a record of 15-2 still has a game with Iowa Christian Academy, which stands at 13-3. The two teams meet on Saturday (Feb. 13). ICA also plays CAM on Friday (Feb. 12).
ACA’s lone loss came at the hands of Iowa Christian Academy on Jan. 29, when the Eagles lost by six points. The conference championship is the first-ever for an ACA boys team since the school joined the Iowa High School Athletic Association in 2004 and the Rolling Hills Conference in 2005. Prior to that, ACA teams played in a small Christian School league, which was not affiliated with the IHSAA. ACA won the Christian School championships several times.
At Churdan, Tim Olejniczak led the Eagles with 29 points. Jason Cameron followed with 18 points and five steals. Jay Snyder and Andy Harmsen each had 12 points, plus Snyder pulled down 11 rebounds. Isaac Lopez added nine points and stole the ball five times. Other scorers were Ben Howe and John Kruse with three each and Joey Reed with one point.
The Eagles host Woodward-Granger on Feb. 18 at 7 p.m. in the first round of the district tournament. If ACA wins that game, the Eagles host the winner of the Iowa Christian Academy-Madrid game on Feb. 23 at 7 p.m.
