In primary chapel, our topic this week was unlikely choices. Some people are always chosen first for their athletic ability or personality, but others are the last to be chosen because of their lack of ability. When Jesus chose his team of twelve disciples, He chose some unlikely people! One example was Levi, a tax collector, who charged people too much money so he could keep some for himself. Another was Bartholomew who refused to follow Jesus until he was asked the second time. Simon, whom Jesus renamed Peter, was impulsive and made some rash decisions at times. John was a fisherman along with James, his brother. All of these disciples were changed when they followed Christ. Their sins were forgiven! While Jesus was here on earth and even after He went to Heaven, they were given important jobs to do! John wrote five books of the Bible which focus on Jesus' love for all. John was asked by Jesus to take care of Mary, His mother. Jesus invited you to be on His team! Will you choose to follow Him? He wants to forgive your sins and make you an effective disciple to accomplish His plan for your life!
The speaker this week in elementary chapel, Mike Neiland, introduced this month's topic of perseverance. After defining the word for the students, he turned the students' focus to Proverbs 24:16, "For a righteous man may fall seven times and rise again, but the wicked shall fall by calamity." He shared quotes of Christians who expressed the importance of perseverance in the Christian life and share examples of those who had perseverance including the apostles and Brother Yun from China who was persecuted for his Faith. Another example he shared was Tim Tebow and his dedication to pointing others to the Lord. Mr. Neiland encouraged the students at ACA to strive for perseverance in their work and in their Faith.
In secondary chapel, Mike Nieland, a friend of ACA and one of our former teachers, returned to challenge the students to consider the question, "What's your Story?" He asked thought provoking questions to students such as "what is God doing in your life?" He showed a commercial of kids quoting John 3:16 and focused on Tim Tebow sharing that only through God is he able to perform at such a high level. He expanded his challenge to the students to have a biblical worldview and not a secular view because of who you are through Christ. In doing so, he gave five responsibilities in our life: love and worship Jesus, love our neighbors, live life holy and please God, grow in our faith, and tell our story. He concluded with his final challenge to discover God's plan for you by praying, reading the Bible, and sharing the Good News.
