Policy Change

There were several changes made throughout this past year in our 500 series policy book. The most current policy book is on our website. One change that occurred is related to secondary students and unexcused absences. The main difference now is that if a student has an unexcused tardy to school missing more than 15 minutes of first period (arriving after 8:36), then the unexcused tardy is considered an unexcused absence resulting in stiffer consequences.

The policy states, “518 Unexcused Absence Policy – BOE revised 7/12 An unexcused absence occurs when a student is missing from school without parental/guardian approval or for reasons the school deems as inappropriate. Secondary students missing more than 15 minutes of any class period will be considered absent from that class. The first day that a student receives one or more unexcused absences will result in a detention for each class missed along with a loss of credit on any assignments or tests for each period missed that day. The second day that a student receives one or more unexcused absences will result in an in-school suspension along with a loss of credit on any assignments or tests for each period missed that day.”
